hi dandv,
you are searching for really curious bugs ;)
but yes, I need to confirm this in v2.15.4000/w32 on W2k.
but, isn't it related to:
MSG :Access violation
that you cannot edit NDN's owns opened files?
I reckon there should be a normal error reply not crash.
but, can you prove this crash on some non NDN's file?

did NDN display the filenames with some "?" in the name?no, in W2k it displays short filename as you said.
yes, system sends ??? as replacement for special chars.
FAR uses different approach, it displays what system sends. so some of special chars (classic diacritics chars) are displayed correctly and the very special chars are replaced by ???.

Hi all,
now I have latest (v2.15.4000) version and I have 1 wish to add to wishlist:
I'm using windows cycling (Ctrl+Tab) to compare files (text, hex, anything). I open both files in view mode and then switch windows with Ctrl+Tab. but I need to close File Manager window because it always gets focus when cycling windows. it's annoying. the F9,Shift+F9 cycling is not good, because F9 is in middle of keyboard, i have right hand on cursor/PageDn/Up keys.
I suggest to choose 1 of these:
1) implement Ctrl+Shift+Tab hotkey to make posibble to jump to PREVIOUS window.(Original Windows approach, for example FAR use that).
2) to make Ctrl+Tab more inteligent:
pressing Ctrl+Tab 1st time - Previous window,
holding Ctrl and then pressing Tab - next windows.
( Opera browser approach - try it! - no need to press Shift!! )
(although Opera handles also Shift ;) but I don't wanna go into details).
I vote for option 2) . You can switch between last 2 windows with easy repeating Ctrl+Tab hotkey.
and what you, other users, think about it ? vote in the poll!

sorry to AngelsHolocaust and all readers,
the latest version v2.15.4000/w32 works correctly and deletes the file which V2.15.0000 cannot.
but I need to add 1 note. v2.15.4000 doesn't show the filename correctly like for example FAR does.
NDN shows only: ZBA87~1.TXT and down in the info panel is - No Long File Name - info.
but the real filename is much much longer and with diacritics chars.
anyway now it just deletes and that's the most important ;)

hi All,
I just discovered that NDN cannot delete a file with special (diacritics) characters in filename.
for example, create some file with special diacritics characters in explorer (File>New>Text file>special filename)
then try to delete. FAR deletes it , NDN not. direct access is OFF, OS-Depended Disk Access is ON or OFF, doesn't matter.
i' getting 2 different error NDN windows when deleting filename with slovak diacritics:
1) Could not erase the file - (when just diacritics chars)
2) Hardware failure on drive C: (12) - (diacritics + even more nonstandard chars from char table)

what should pack do?The database command pack removes deleted records.
you have 100 records. you delete 20 records with delete (CTRL+D).
but you still have 100 records, you can un-delete those 20 records.
but when you do Pack command in db systems, the deleted records are REMOVED, so you will have just 80 records left in dbf.
ok?

hi All,
i was using old DN in DOS, then it stops developing I switched to FAR, then I saw there are DN clones, so i'm back with NDN.
I use DBF files a lot, and I miss possibility to Insert a record or Pack/Zap table. there is only Delete Record feature (CTRL+D). or the others are hidden somewhere?

Setting the date of multiple files doesn't work

AH,
ofcourse, empty fields means - Keep the current data unchanged.
only replace entered fields.
good idea,
